I was worried about the bamboo smell, but it's mild and airs out quickly. The paddle is a nice bonus for forming rolls, and the mat rolls tight without any slats shifting.

For a bamboo mat this price, the slats are surprisingly snug together with no splinters, and the paddle tucks right into the cabinet drawer. My first uramaki rolls held their shape without a single tear.

I’ve been making California rolls for a few weeks and this mat holds together perfectly even after rinsing. The paddle that came with it makes spreading rice much easier than using my bare hands.
